Netmarble has revealed detailed information about its upcoming game, Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, during a world preview broadcast on March 13. The event was streamed on the company's official YouTube channel, featuring producer Koo Do-hyung and various influencers who introduced the game's key content.

Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is a multi-type open-world action RPG based on the immensely popular Japanese manga The Seven Deadly Sins, which has sold over 55 million copies worldwide. Players will embark on an adventure alongside Tristan, traversing the past, present, and future of the Britannia continent.

The game is set to have its soft launch on March 17 for PS5 and Steam, followed by a full release on March 24, which will include mobile platforms. The main storyline will be accessible up to Act 12, featuring a total of 18 characters, including fan-favorites like Meliodas and original characters unique to this installment.

During the soft launch, players will encounter five field bosses, five challenge bosses, and three dungeons. The game’s open world allows for extensive exploration, with iconic locations from the original series, such as the Castle of Liones, the Fairy Forest, Bastet Prison, the City of the Dead, and the Village of Vanya, all recreated for players to experience.

Players will have the opportunity to gather materials scattered throughout the open world to craft potions, tools, weapons, and armor. They can also rest by creating campfires to recover health. In addition, various monsters and creatures populate the landscape, some of which can be captured to become companions, providing unique effects or allowing players to ride them.

Combat in Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is designed to be dynamic, utilizing normal attacks, skills, special attacks, and ultimate moves. Players can switch characters in battle, triggering tag skills that can deal significant damage or counter enemy attacks. The game features a burst system that accumulates through elemental attacks, unleashing powerful effects when fully charged, allowing for strategic depth in combat.

Notably, the traditional weapon gacha system has been removed. Instead, players can craft SR and SSR grade weapons using materials collected during their adventures. This change aims to provide a more straightforward and rewarding experience for players.

Character summoning will have a base cap of 80 attempts, guaranteeing at least one SSR hero. If a desired hero does not appear, players will be assured to receive them within the next 80 attempts. Additionally, a separate pickup hero reward will be given after 120 attempts, independent of previous draws.

To celebrate the launch, Netmarble has organized various events, including offering new users an SSR hero named Gila and exclusive weapons. Players can earn up to 373 summoning opportunities through gameplay events.

On March 15, Netmarble hosted an offline event in Los Angeles to boost brand awareness ahead of the game’s global launch. The event featured 50 cosplayers dressed as Elizabeth, one of the main characters from the series, who paraded through the L.A. Live area. This spectacle was inspired by a scene from the original manga's "Forest of White Dreams," where multiple Elizabeths test the protagonist Meliodas.

The event included photo zones, game demonstrations, merchandise distribution, and a lucky draw, creating an engaging atmosphere for fans and local citizens alike. The festivities were also streamed live, connecting the event with the global audience.

As the first true open-world game from Netmarble, Seven Deadly Sins: Origin aims to captivate players with its immersive 3D animation and full dubbing in both Korean and Japanese. The game’s story takes place three years after the original series, providing fans with an entirely new narrative while allowing them to control familiar characters.

While the game offers a rich open-world experience, it also features linear storytelling through main and side quests. Players will find numerous hidden treasures and puzzles throughout the expansive map, enhancing the exploration aspect of the game. However, some critics have noted that certain side quests may feel repetitive or simplistic.

Combat is visually striking, with elemental attacks that trigger burst effects for high damage. The game encourages character switching to maximize damage output, although some players have found the overall difficulty to be on the easier side, lacking the depth that might challenge seasoned gamers.

Despite some minor drawbacks, Seven Deadly Sins: Origin showcases Netmarble's strong understanding and affection for the source material, delivering a satisfying experience for fans eager to step into the shoes of their favorite characters. The game’s free-to-play model, supplemented by in-app purchases for character summoning, is also a significant advantage.

In summary, Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is poised to make a substantial impact upon its release, offering a blend of nostalgia and new adventures for both longtime fans and newcomers to the franchise. With its immersive world and engaging combat system, it promises to deliver an exciting gaming experience.
