Marshfield, Mass. — An extensive search for eight-year-old Callahan Pierce came to a successful end on Wednesday morning when he was found safe after spending a cold night outdoors. Callahan, who went missing around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, was located approximately two miles from his home, on Houndsditch Road, Duxbury, according to local police.

Marshfield Police Chief Phillip Tavares confirmed the boy was discovered by residents of Duxbury, who lured him into their home with food. “This was a very scary situation, but it has a happy ending,” Tavares said, expressing relief at the outcome of what could have been a tragic incident.

Callahan was last seen near 236 Moraine Street, wearing a black Marshfield sweatshirt and black sweatpants, and carrying a backpack. Concerned family members and neighbors quickly alerted authorities after he failed to return home, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.

The search efforts commenced immediately, involving numerous police officers and firefighters who scoured the neighborhood and surrounding backyards. A command post was established on Red Gold Farm Road, close to where Callahan was last seen. The search teams utilized drones and a state police helicopter equipped with infrared technology, which flew overhead to assist with the search.

Meanwhile, local residents joined the effort, armed with flashlights, combing through the woods and surrounding areas. A public safety alert was issued that night to inform residents of the missing child, urging them to check their home surveillance cameras for any potential sightings of Callahan.

Just before midnight, the Plymouth County Technical Rescue unit was called to assist with the search, highlighting the urgency of the situation. The police had also requested that residents refrain from entering the area where Callahan was last seen to avoid interfering with the search operations. “We greatly appreciate our community coming together, but we ask that no one come to the scene because it will impede our ability for our infrared cameras and any additional human scent will throw off our dogs,” the police department stated on social media.

Fortunately, by Wednesday morning, Callahan was found safe. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, where officials suspected he might be suffering from hypothermia after spending the night outside. Fortunately, the authorities confirmed that he would be reunited with his family at the hospital.

Chief Tavares praised the community's efforts, stating, “This was a great example of how our community comes together during difficult times.” The collaborative search showcased the dedication of local law enforcement and highlighted the importance of community involvement during emergencies.

The successful recovery of Callahan Pierce serves to relieve his family and stands out against a backdrop of similar incidents that have raised concerns about child safety. The quick response and effective coordination among various agencies and the community played a key role, demonstrating the effectiveness of public vigilance and cooperation.

Callahan’s case serves to remind families of the importance of keeping track of their children, especially during outdoor activities. The police have encouraged parents to remind their children about the importance of staying close to home and being aware of their surroundings.

Marshfield police have also expressed gratitude to everyone involved, stating, “Thank you for everyone's support and assistance!” The community's response reflects a broader commitment to safety and vigilance, especially when it comes to the well-being of children.
