SAINT PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild have signed forward Maxim Shabanov to a one-year, $1.6 million contract for the 2026-27 season, as announced by President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Bill Guerin on July 2, 2026. This move follows the team's recent acquisitions of winger Blake Coleman and defenseman Olli Maatta, marking a strategic effort to strengthen their forward lineup.
Shabanov, who turned 25 on October 7, 2025, had a promising but challenging rookie season with the New York Islanders, where he registered 18 points (5 goals, 13 assists) in 44 games. The Islanders opted not to tender him a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent. The Wild see Shabanov as a top-nine forward capable of playing on either wing, which aligns with their need for offensive depth after the departures of key players like Mats Zuccarello, Marcus Johansson, and Vladimir Tarasenko.
