The first day of the final stage of the PUBG Global Series 1 (PGS1) took place on March 21 in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, marking a significant event in the world of esports. This global competition, centered around Krafton's flagship title, *PUBG: Battlegrounds*, gathered 16 teams that had successfully passed through the group, winner, and survival stages, setting the stage for intense rivalry.
The PGS represents an international tournament for *Battlegrounds* esports, and this year marks its first iteration under a new circuit format, which is set to expand through a series of three tournaments culminating in 2026. PGS1 serves as the inaugural event of this new circuit, providing a platform for teams to compete under updated gameplay mechanics and strategies.
Among the 16 teams competing, four hailed from South Korea, but only DN SuperS and T1 advanced to the final stage. They are set to compete in a total of ten matches over two days against 14 other global teams, all vying for the ultimate trophy.
The excitement was palpable from the very first match, which kicked off with a fierce battle on the Erangel map. The match was characterized by intense firefights, particularly as teams moved through the southwestern zone of Primorsk, which led to early eliminations. T1 faced a setback right at the start, losing a member to FullSense (FS) in a swift encounter.
As the match progressed, teams that had secured positions inside the safe zone engaged in fierce combat with those still on the outskirts. The first team to be eliminated was Cerberus (FCE), unable to withstand the pressure from FullSense. By the fifth safe zone, the fighting intensified, resulting in the elimination of S2G, eArena (EA), and FURIA (FUR). Fortunately for the two Korean teams, they managed to position themselves favorably within the safe zone, enhancing their chances of victory.
Despite being outnumbered, T1 fought valiantly but ultimately fell short, failing to reach the top four after being pushed out by Twisted Minds (TWIS). In contrast, DN SuperS showcased exceptional teamwork, overcoming challenges from FURIA and 4AM to expand their territory and secure the first match victory, finishing in first place.
The second match took place on the Miramar map, where Petrichor Road (PeRo), who had shown strong performance in previous stages, could not surpass Cerberus and was eliminated early. The Expendables (TE) capitalized on the situation, gaining momentum and climbing into a mid-table position. As the safe zone narrowed to the central Kendra area, teams on the outskirts faced significant challenges due to the unique terrain.
T1 struggled against NAVI and was eliminated quickly, while DN SuperS faced a tough challenge against 4AM, finishing their match without a significant score. The top four teams by the end of this match were AnyOne's Legends (AL), Twisted Minds, 4AM, and Jingdong, with the chicken dinner ultimately going to AnyOne's Legends.
The results from the first two matches placed 4AM at the top of the overall standings, primarily due to their kill points, while DN SuperS followed closely in second place thanks to their earlier victory. The first day of the finals is set to continue with matches leading up to match five, promising more thrilling gameplay.
Prior to the finals, Krafton had organized the PGS Circuit 1 survival stage on March 20, which featured a total of 24 teams, including 12 global partners and 12 regional qualifiers. This stage was crucial as it set the stage for the final rankings within the circuit. The survival stage ran from March 18 to March 22, encompassing group, winner, survival, and final stages.
During the winner stage on March 19, DN SuperS and T1 both secured their spots in the final stage, each amassing 44 points, with DN SuperS finishing with a rank score of 9 and T1 at 8. Unfortunately, other Korean teams, Crazy Raccoon and Gen.G, failed to secure their tickets to the finals during the survival stage. Gen.G finished in 10th place, while Crazy Raccoon ended up at 15th, marking an early exit from the tournament.
Despite their efforts, both teams were unable to accumulate enough points to progress, with Gen.G consistently placing within the top eight but ultimately falling short in the final match. Crazy Raccoon struggled throughout the day, showing signs of improvement in their last match but lacking sufficient points to make a significant comeback.
All matches of the PGS1 are being broadcast live on various official channels including the *Battlegrounds* esports YouTube channel, SOOP, and CHZZK, along with joint streaming by multiple popular streamers, allowing fans to follow the action closely.
As the tournament continues, the spotlight remains on the fierce competition and the evolving strategies that teams employ in this high-stakes environment. The PGS1 not only showcases the skill of its players but also highlights the growing popularity of esports on a global scale.
With the finals still underway, fans are eager to see which team will ultimately claim the championship trophy and etch their name in the annals of *PUBG* history.
