In a thrilling start to the 2026 esports season, the League of Legends (LoL) First Stand Tournament has officially kicked off in São Paulo, Brazil, from March 16 to 22. This year marks the second edition of the tournament, which brings together teams from six global regions, showcasing their skills and strategies in a competitive environment.

Organized by Riot Games, the First Stand Tournament serves as a platform for regional teams to battle it out, setting the stage for the upcoming esports season. The event not only highlights the prowess of participating teams but also plays a crucial role in determining seeding for the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), making it a vital competition for aspiring champions.

Last year's inaugural tournament was held in Seoul, where Hanwha Life Esports emerged victorious, setting a high bar for this year's competitors. This time around, the tournament features eight teams: from the Korean League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK), Gen.G and BNK PIERX; from the Chinese League of Legends Pro League (LPL), Bilibili Gaming (BLG) and JD Gaming (JDG); from the European League of Legends European Championship (LEC), G2 Esports; from the Asia-Pacific League (LCP), Team Secret Whales (TSW); from the North American League of Legends Championship Series (LCS), LYON; and from the Brazilian Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends (CBLOL), LOUD.

During the group stage, the teams have been divided into two groups. Group A consists of BNK PIERX, BLG, G2, and TSW, while Group B includes Gen.G, JDG, LYON, and LOUD. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, where they will compete for the coveted championship trophy.

The tournament's finals are set for March 22, with all matches played in a best-of-five format under the Fearless Draft rule, ensuring an exciting and unpredictable competition. Fans can expect intense gameplay as teams unveil new strategies and adapt to the evolving meta of League of Legends.

In addition to the thrilling matches, the tournament is bolstered by support from SOOP, a platform that will broadcast the event live. Popular streamers Kim Min-kyu, Lee Sang-ho, Peanut, Annyeong Suya, and Kang Haera will serve as co-streamers, providing unique commentary and engaging with viewers in real-time. This interactive approach allows fans to enjoy the tournament alongside their favorite personalities, enhancing the viewing experience.

SOOP has also planned various viewer participation events during the tournament. These include a prediction event where fans can guess match outcomes for a chance to win prizes, and a drops event where viewers can earn rewards by watching official broadcasts or co-streamer channels. Special missions will also be available throughout the tournament, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans.

As the tournament unfolds, the spotlight will be on the participating teams, especially the LCK representatives, Gen.G and BNK PIERX. Both teams have shown promising performances in their respective leagues, making them strong contenders for the title.
