George Liddard is gearing up for a highly anticipated showdown against Tyler Denny this Saturday, marking what he describes to be a "full-circle moment" for his burgeoning boxing career. The young middleweight champion, who is just 23 years old, will defend his British and Commonwealth titles at London’s Copper Box Arena, a venue larger than where he last fought, the York Hall, where he achieved a career-best performance by stopping Kieron Conway after ten rounds.

The upcoming fight signifies a major step for Liddard, who is set to headline a Matchroom promotion for the second time. The event will also feature his gym-mate Jimmy Sains, who will defend his English middleweight title against Derrick Osaze, and another gym-mate, Louie Ward, making his professional debut against Jahfieus Faure. "We’ve got Jimmy on the card, defending the English title," Liddard told BoxingScene. "Louie Ward’s making his debut. I’m headlining, and a lad from my gym’s making his debut. It’s a special night."

Notably, Liddard is fighting for only the 14th time, yet he has already established himself among the British fight scene's promising prospects. He expressed confidence heading into the bout against Denny, a seasoned opponent and former European champion who has previously defeated Felix Cash. Liddard acknowledged Denny’s experience but believes he possesses the skills necessary to win decisively. "Tyler Denny’s a good opponent. He’s experienced. He’s a former European champion. He’s a great opponent for this stage of my career," Liddard commented. "I’ve not underestimated him one bit. I’m fully ready for a 12-round war if that’s what it needs to be, but I believe I get the job done stylishly on Saturday."

Liddard's confidence is rooted from his recent title victories and from the rigorous training he undergoes at Tony Sims’ Essex-based Matchroom Gym. He is aware of the pressure that comes with being a champion but insists that he thrives under such circumstances. "Winning the British and Commonwealth titles obviously fills you with confidence. But my confidence comes from the work I put into training, week-in, week-out. I couldn’t work any harder than I do," he said.

The matchup between Liddard and Denny has been framed by some observers and fans alike, primarily around the theme of "youth versus experience." Denny's extensive fight history—having more than double the number of fights compared to Liddard—has led to this narrative. Liddard, on the other hand, is unfazed by such labels. "They’re always gonna label it like that because it’s a younger guy versus an older guy, but labels are labels. I’m ready for any style Tyler wants to come with," he remarked.

Amidst the excitement surrounding the fight, Liddard also touched upon the recent controversies involving his gym-mate Conor Benn, who has made headlines for his departure from Matchroom to Zuffa Boxing. Liddard, maintaining a professional demeanor, stated that discussions about Benn’s situation are kept separate from their training environment. "We don’t really talk about that stuff. Business is business. We go about our own. When we see him, we chat about training, but we don’t really talk too much about that stuff," he said.

Meanwhile, the undercard of Saturday's event features several compelling matchups. English lightweight champion Giorgio Visioli showcased his skills by outpointing Levi Giles with a unanimous decision victory, improving his record to 11-0 with 6 KOs. Visioli’s performance was characterized by his ability to control the fight, landing decisive blows and demonstrating superior technique against Giles, who now holds a record of 17-3-1 with 4 KOs.

On the same card, Jimmy Sains faced Derrick Osaze, defending his English middleweight title successfully through a narrow majority decision. The judges scored the bout 95-95, 97-93, and 96-94, illustrating how closely contested the fight was. Sains, now boasting a record of 12-0 with 10 KOs, managed to fend off Osaze's aggressive tactics, a fighter with a record of 13-4 and 3 KOs.

Another highlight of the evening was Emmanuel Buttigieg, who delivered a dramatic performance by knocking out Jake Goodwin. After a tumultuous fight that saw him deducted points for infractions, Buttigieg rallied to secure victory, demonstrating resilience and skill. He improved to 12-0 with 4 KOs, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

The event at the Copper Box Arena showcases Liddard's title defense and highlights the depth of talent within the Matchroom stable. With the growing excitement around the British boxing scene, Liddard's fight against Denny is poised to be a defining moment for both fighters. Liddard is eager to prove himself against a formidable opponent and to solidify his position among the ranks of the elite middleweights.

"I’m going to show the difference between a good fighter and a great fighter," Liddard stated, embodying the spirit of a young athlete ready to make his mark. The stakes are high, and the anticipation surrounding this title defense is palpable, setting the stage for a thrilling night of boxing.
