Epic Games has rolled out a major update for Fortnite, marking the arrival of Chapter 7 Season 2, aptly titled "Showdown." This latest seasonal update, designated as version 40.00 for PC and Fortnite update 5.04 for console gamers, was launched on March 19, 2026, and introduces a wealth of new content, including a fresh location, a new ranked mode, and a variety of unvaulted items.

Upon logging in for the first time, players are faced with a pivotal choice: to align with Team Foundation or Team Ice King. This decision will influence the types of weapons that become available throughout the season. At the season's conclusion, the winning team will unlock a special outfit style for all Battle Pass owners, making each player's choice even more significant.

The update also introduces a new gameplay mechanic known as Rivalry Screens, which allows players to challenge others in matches. By eliminating rivals, players earn Rival Credits, which can be spent at Rivalry Gear machines for various perks, such as infinite Slap, exotic weapons, or daily XP bundles. This feature is designed to enhance the competitive atmosphere of the game, as players can track eliminations and damage across matches to determine their rivals.

As part of the update, a new ranked mode called Arenas will debut on April 9, 2026. This mode will focus on build-only gameplay and will allow players to engage in close-quarters combat, either in 1v1 boxfights or in 16-player round robin competitions.

In addition to gameplay mechanics, Epic Games has unveiled the full Battle Pass for Chapter 7 Season 2, which features a total of eight new skins, including fan-favorite characters such as The Foundation and Ice King, as well as new characters like Lady Windfrost and Dasha. Notably, the Foundation skin comes with an alternate helmet-off style inspired by WWE superstar The Rock. Players can also look forward to a special sidekick, Ice Prince, as part of the Battle Pass.

The Battle Pass offers a launch week bonus for those who purchase it before March 26, 2026, allowing players to instantly unlock the exclusive Stealth Tech Foundation style and accessories. Additional premium rewards include the Ice Prince Sidekick, Ice King’s Frostwalkers Kicks, and various outfits.

Fans of the Looney Tunes franchise will be thrilled to learn that the collaboration has been confirmed, with a Bugs Bunny skin included in the Battle Pass. However, characters like Daffy Duck and Lola Bunny will be available as separate purchases in the item shop. This crossover adds a new layer of excitement, merging classic animation with the dynamic world of Fortnite.

The loot pool for Season 2 has also been significantly refreshed, introducing new weapons and returning fan-favorites. Among the newly added items are the Vector 7 DMR, a high-damage scoped rifle designed for precision, and the Chaos Reloader Shotgun, which offers devastating close-range damage with a unique reloading mechanic. Other notable additions include the Overdrive Grenade, which boosts movement and reload speed, and the Skyline Deployer, allowing players to create ziplines for quick traversal.

Players can also look forward to unvaulted items such as the Combat Assault Rifle and the Mythic Goldfish, enhancing the variety of gameplay options available. The introduction of the Seven Power Gloves further emphasizes mobility, providing players with abilities to dash and uppercut their way through matches.

In a nod to community engagement, players will now have the opportunity to drive the Battle Bus during matches. A randomly selected player will take the wheel, steering through rings to grant XP to teammates and spawn supply drops, adding a fun twist to the traditional gameplay.

New match events known as rift anomalies will also be introduced, reshaping the game experience by applying unique twists that affect all players equally. The first of these anomalies, Rivalry Rumble, will see every player enter a rivalry simultaneously, while Storm Focus will alter the storm's shape and reveal its final location at the match's start.

For those returning to the game after a break, Epic Games has implemented a Returning Player Modifier. This feature aims to ease players back into the action by providing more accessible matches for a limited time, allowing them to shake off the rust before being placed into a more calibrated matchmaking system.

General improvements and fixes have also been rolled out, including enhancements to teammate icons on the minimap and improved interactions with in-game items. These updates aim to streamline gameplay and enhance the overall player experience.

As Fortnite continues to evolve, the Chapter 7 Season 2 update brings a fresh wave of content and features that promise to engage both new and veteran players alike. With the blend of new gameplay mechanics, exciting collaborations, and a revamped loot pool, the season is set to offer a thrilling experience for the community.
