His wife, Kang San-joo, shared, "He always wanted to positively influence others, and if he had been conscious, he would have chosen to donate his organs. Yang began his teaching career in 2000 at an elementary school in Seogwipo City, dedicating 26 years to nurturing students. In 2024, he was appointed as the school's principal but had to resign due to his health issues. Even after his diagnosis, he remained committed to his students, returning to the classroom as a regular teacher in September 2025 after extensive rehabilitation.

He was known for ensuring that students received meals and even personally looking for those who had gone missing from school.
